Amazon’s Prime Day offers a terrific opportunity to overhaul your home office with affordable laptops, displays, and peripherals, all at substantial discounts — and no, that’s not hype!
Understandably, things have felt somewhat bleak. Tariffs have pushed prices higher, and shortages of memory and storage have elevated the price of PCs and laptops. But attitudes have shifted, too. You don’t need the latest and greatest hardware to get things done, as I proved by re-testing a seven-year-old PC and comparing it to a modern laptop. However, we don’t need to go nearly that far to upgrade your workspace.
Here are a few suggestions to supercharge your home office, focusing on what you’ll need and use rather than all the bells and whistles. To begin, let’s start with a reasonable $589 laptop that has everything that you need.
Laptop: Acer Aspire 14 AI, $589.99
Why you should buy this deal: Inside Acer’s 14-inch $589 laptop is Intel’s Core Ultra 256V chip — not the latest “Panther Lake” chip with its killer graphics, but the excellent “Lunar Lake” generation that emphasized moderate performance, surprisingly decent gaming performance, and true all-day battery life that lasted over 17 hours. The 1920×1200 display is solid, and it was built when 16GB of memory was standard. These days many laptop makers are moving to 8GB of memory to save money. There’s even a 1TB SSD.
Yes, this is an Acer Aspire. (I do like Acer’s upgraded Swift laptops a bit better, but the Acer’s Swift X, which comes with a Ryzen AI 350 and an RTX 5060, costs $1,559–that’s a bit overkill for home office tasks). The laptop on sale today began its life at $980 and has steadily decreased to its current all-time low price. If you’re looking for a solid budget laptop, take heart and realize that there are still absolutely reasonable options out there to take advantage of.

Display: LG 27US500 27-inch 4K Display: $170
Why you should buy this deal: I truly believe that 2026 will be the year of display upgrades. There’s no reason not to. You stare at a display for hours on end and, in my experience, adding additional displays equates to a more productive working environment. LG’s $170 27US500 Ultrafine hits that 27-inch sweet spot: large enough without monopolizing your desk and with solid contrast and good color (90 percent of the P3 color gamut). And, of course, it’s a 4K display.
Amazon’s price history also indicates that the price of this display has steadily declined from its $249 MSRP down to its current $170.05 price. There’s just one thing that I noticed this display lacks and that’s the ability to rotate into portrait mode, which can really add to your effective desk space. This $185 Innocn 27-inch 4K display (34 percent off) offers the ability to rotate the display, with mostly similar features at a similar price.

Docking station: Wavlink 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 Dock: $195

Simon Jary
Why you should buy this deal: If you know me, you know that I jumped into reviewing Thunderbolt docks during the 2020 work-from-home revolution and never looked back. They’re a terrific way to make sense of all of your peripherals. Right now, Thunderbolt 4 is the default standard for Windows PCs, but Wavlink’s Thunderbolt 5 dock, offering even more bandwidth, is on sale for 35 percent off for a very Thunderbolt 4-esque price of $195.
Eventually, the Windows world is going to move to Thunderbolt 5. At that time, you’ll need laptop hardware and a dock that supports it, especially for those moving into high-refresh-rate 4K displays that go above 60Hz, multiple displays, or even a bit of gaming. It’s a great time to get that part of your investment out of the way for cheap. (You just won’t see the higher-bandwidth advantages of TB5 until you upgrade your laptop.) But this dock is at a historically low price, and earned a Macworld Editor’s Choice award, to boot.

Storage: Seagate Expansion 8TB External hard drive, $249

Why you should buy this deal: Well, we can’t lie. There really isn’t a deal attached to this, though Amazon claims that Seagate’s 8TB external drive is 11 percent off at $249.00. Frankly, I think you’d be better off skipping external storage altogether, and storing data on your laptop’s built-in SSD, and then backing it up via a cloud subscription. External SSDs are even more out of reach, unfortunately.
Amazon’s price history shows that this drive was $100 less a year ago, which doesn’t look too shabby in 2026. Still, you might consider looking elsewhere for inexpensive upgrades this Prime Day.
Mouse/keyboard: Logitech Signature MK650: $51.35

Why you should buy this deal: Finding the “right” mouse and keyboard is really subjective, as your tastes may vary depending upon how much “action” you prefer in the keyboard’s resiliency and how the mouse fits under your fingers. Logitech’s $51.35 Signature series, however, is geared toward the home office, with Bluetooth as well as dongle options. Personally, I appreciate the palm rest, the additional ten-key number keys and function keys at the top.
Logitech and Amazon claim that this combo is 27 percent off, which seems to be true. Over time, the price has steadily decreased from a high of $70 to a low of $51.35.
Webcam: EMeet S600 4K Webcam: $50.51

Why you should buy this deal: I’ve reviewed a number of EMeet webcams, though not this one. Still, the EMeet S600 has features that I like. 4K resolution (through the 1/1.255 sensor will tend toward the budget side), the ability to stream at 60 fps at 1080p, and a tight 73-degree field of view. A nice 4K webcam goes a long way toward improving your image (literally!) on conference calls.
In this case, the price of this webcam has bounced up and down, but right now it’s at its lowest price. As an alternative, consider the Lenovo Performance FHD webcam, which offers Windows Hello capabilities for $54.96.
