The special Prime Day price we saw for Samsung’s Odyssey G51F gaming monitor last week? It’s still going, which means you can grab this 27-inch 1440p display for just $149.99, a good 40% off its $250 MSRP. If you’re still on 1080p, this is an excellent time to upgrade.
That 2560×1440 resolution on a 27-inch panel is about 109 PPI, which is pretty good for crisp text and detailed images without overly taxing your system (which would happen if you jumped all the way up to 4K). It’s fast, too, with a 180Hz refresh rate that provides smooth motion even in high-action scenes, plus a 1ms response time and AMD FreeSync for minimal screen tearing if you have a compatible graphics card.
Everything else is pretty mundane—not surprising given its budget-tier price. Don’t get this monitor if you need utmost color accuracy, as this one has a VA panel (you want IPS instead). And don’t get this monitor expecting good HDR performance. It technically supports HDR10, but the results are underwhelming—again, not surprising given its price.
Who is this right for? Productivity workers and modest gamers who have been hanging onto their 1080p monitors for far too long. Now that it’s $149.99, it’s a smart value buy that’ll net you more screen real estate and adequate gaming performance at all but the highest frame rates.
