LinkedIn’s ‘Seems like AI slop’ button has already been used 1 million times

A few weeks ago, LinkedIn began testing a “seems like AI slop” button to report suspected spam on its social media platform, and it has proved extremely popular.

According to LinkedIn’s product manager, Hari Srinivasan, the button has already been used over a million times. As a result, the number of views of content on the platform classified as AI spam has, in some cases, fallen by 40 percent.

LinkedIn has not disclosed exactly how users’ reports affect the algorithm, but says that several different signals are used to determine the reach of a post. There are also safeguards in place to prevent the reporting function from being misused.

At the same time, LinkedIn is now adding a new feature that notifies users if their own posts have been reported as suspected AI spam.

“This week, we’re taking another step,” Srinivasan said. “If a post receives enough community feedback, you may see a message in your Post Analytics to help you understand how your content is being received. We approached this assuming good intent; I know I’m increasingly conscious on how to not sound like AI & the goal is to provide helpful feedback.”
