iOS 27 has an Easter egg that will delight longtime Apple fans

The key to finding the easter egg is to continue scrolling beyond where it stops naturally. If you do so, a search bar appears, and as you continue scrolling, the word “Moof!” will automatically be typed, revealing Clarus the Dogcow, a longtime character of Apple operating systems. If you don’t know who Clarus is, it was created by Susan Kare, who created the Dogcow glyph for the Cairo font on the original Macintosh in 1984. Clarus is a sentimental mascot for the Macintosh team and Mac users.

There was a period of time when Clarus seemed to be put out to a doghouse in Apple’s pasture (did you see how I combined a dog/cow reference there?), but it’s been making surprise appearances. A year ago, Clarus made an appearance on the Apple Watch Hermès. Four years ago, Clarus surprised and delighted users of macOS Ventura when Apple decided to put it in the Page Setup window. It’s fun to see Apple add a little whimsy to its software. Does it make us appreciate Liquid Glass a little more? That remains to be seen.
