Many users regard the Bluetooth function as a notorious weak point in Windows 11, and even Microsoft clearly sees Bluetooth as a problem. With the latest Windows update, the Redmond-based company is now looking to tackle this Achilles’ heel of its operating system.
The changelog for the Windows 11 Insider Release Preview Build 26100.9539/26200.9539 for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 highlights, alongside various other improvements, places a particular focus on Windows 11’s Bluetooth functionality. According to the changelog, Windows 11 is receiving these Bluetooth-related updates to improve its reliability and usability:
- During voice calls, the Windows Shell pop-up window for volume control is now displayed when the volume of a Bluetooth Classic Audio accessory is adjusted using the volume controls on the device itself. This provides visual feedback on the new volume level.
- This update improves the accuracy of the connection status displayed by Windows for accessories whose connection to the PC has been interrupted.
- This update improves the stability of the ‘Bluetooth & devices’ page in Settings when managing Bluetooth and audio devices.
- This update resolves an issue where the Bluetooth wireless connection might have been disabled, but the toggle on the ‘Bluetooth & devices’ page in Settings was shown as enabled.
- This update improves the stability and compatibility of Bluetooth audio.
- This update improves microphone compatibility with certain Bluetooth Classic audio accessories.
- This update resolves an issue that could cause a crash (error code 0x139) when streaming Bluetooth audio.
- This update improves reliability and performance when using LE Audio accessories.
- This update improves the reliability of shared audio content.
It remains to be seen whether this will, in future, eliminate all the causes of Bluetooth connections becoming unstable or dropping out completely. For the time being, only Insider testers can try out the improvements anyway. It is currently unknown when Microsoft will incorporate the above-mentioned improvements into the final version of Windows 11.
