If you’re running a Mac that boots into Monterey, it’s been time to upgrade for a while. You’ve missed out on Stage Manager, iPhone Mirroring, Apple Intelligence, and the whole Apple silicon transition, not to mention new hardware features such as Thunderbolt 4, ProMotion displays, a year and a half of security updates, and the whole Apple silicon transition.
But if you’ve been holding out, here’s one more reason to finally upgrade: The next Chrome update, version 151, will no longer support macOS Monterey. According to the Chrome Platform Status page, Chrome will continue to work on Macs running Monterey, but will show a warning infobar, and won’t receive further feature or security updates.
Google says users who “need to update their computer to a support version of macOS,” if they want to receive future updates. For new installations of Chrome after 151, macOS 13+ will be required.
Back in July, Google dropped support for macOS 11 Big Sur with version 138, so Ventura support might not be around for all that much longer. If you’re going to update, we recommend getting an Apple Silicon Mac that supports macOS Tahoe so you will guaranteed to get years of updates and security releases.
