Opening Doors to the Future: CISA Announces Participation in the CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS)

  • by

WASHINGTON – Today, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced it is now participating in the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS), offering exclusive federal career pathways to qualified students and recent graduates through internship and postgraduate programs. With OPM creating 100 new SFS cybersecurity internship roles, CISA is calling on bold thinkers to introduce them to principles, concepts, regulations, and work processes that are the foundation of cybersecurity. These positions offer hands-on experience and a direct path to becoming a future leader in cyber defense. This initiative marks a significant investment in CISA’s commitment to cybersecurity workforce development and national infrastructure resilience.

Administered through OPM, the SFS Program is designed to recruit and train cybersecurity professionals through scholarships for undergraduate and graduate education. In exchange, recipients commit to serving in cybersecurity roles within federal, state, local, or tribal government agencies for a period equal to the length of their scholarship.

For the undergraduate summer internship cohort, CISA will provide selectees with on-the-job training to prepare them for a career in the federal government in a cybersecurity related field. Those selected will receive a time-limited appointment in the excepted service. For the post graduate cohort, CISA may provide selectees with a full-time position in the excepted service. These opportunities are only for eligible SFS scholarship recipients, as part of the administration’s commitment to keeping its promise to cybersecurity students and to attracting top talent to CISA.

“Under the steadfast leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, CISA has sharpened its mission—partnering across sectors to confront today’s threats and build a future defined by secure, resilient infrastructure. Achieving this vision demands a workforce that is not only talented, but also deeply knowledgeable, innovative, and driven. ‘We are unwavering in our commitment to the OPM’s Scholarship for Service (SFS) program,” said CISA Acting Director Madhu Gottumukkala. “It is a cornerstone of our strategy to cultivate a robust pipeline of elite cybersecurity professionals who will protect the nation’s digital and physical frontiers.”

Eligible SFS recipients should use the USAJobs links below to submit their resume, transcript and service letters for CISA opportunities from December 15, 2025, through February 27, 2026.
