In late March, Microsoft released emergency patch KB5085516, which was meant to fix broken Microsoft app logins. Unfortunately, users are now reporting that the out-of-band update is causing other problems of its own. On affected Windows 11 computers, users are no longer able to move or resize windows.
The report comes via BornCity (machine translated), who explains that a reader says the issues are occurring on computers running Windows 11 25H2 Pro. After users installed KB5085516 on those PCs, they may find that they can no longer move or resize windows. As soon as the KB5085516 update is uninstalled, windows are once again able to be moved and resized per normal.
Microsoft hasn’t (yet?) confirmed this issue on the support page for KB5085516, which still says “Microsoft is currently not aware of any issues with this update.” It remains to be seen whether this window issue is an isolated incident or whether it’s an issue affecting PCs at large. If you experience problems with windows on your Windows 11 25H2 Pro PC after installing KB5085516, uninstalling it may help.
By the way: If you’re using Windows 11 Home, you’re missing out on the many benefits of Windows 11 Pro. To learn more, see our comparison of Windows 11 Home and Pro. If you want to upgrade, snag it for cheap in the PCWorld Software Store: now just $59 instead of $99.
