One issue I have with my laptop is that it lacks ports. Fortunately, it’s an easy problem to solve—all you need is a hub. Anker’s 8-in-1 PowerExpand USB-C Hub is on sale for $40 at Amazon right now, matching its lowest ever price and down from its original $54.
Most USB-C hubs are meant to work with laptops, but this one has a few ports you don’t normally get on a cheaper model. You have double 4K HDMI, which lets you bolster your laptop with two high-def displays. There’s also a USB-C with 85 watts of power delivery, allowing you to keep your laptop topped up without a separate charging port. Ethernet is a nice touch, and then you have four data ports: double USB-A, SD, and microSD. It covers pretty much all your connectivity needs.
Note, however, that those USB-A data ports are only 3.0, which caps out at a theoretical max speed of 5 Gbps. This is not the hub to get if you’re moving tons of data around between ultra-speedy USB-C 3.2 or USB4 flash drives and SSDs. It also lacks USB-C data ports, so not the right hub to get if you have lots of USB4 or Thunderbolt devices to connect.
For a quick solution to limited ports on a laptop, this 8-port hub is a solid middle-of-the-ground option now that it’s $40. For other options, see PCWorld’s picks for the best USB-C hubs and best Thunderbolt docks.
