AMD had a certified hit with its game-boosting Ryzen 7 5800X3D chip, sporting extra V-cache, back in 2022. The follow-ups to this design have only gotten better, and if you’re building a PC for gaming, Ryzen chips are absolutely worth it on the high end. Today you can grab the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, AMD’s penultimate CPU for gamers on the AM5 socket, for an unbeatable price. Normally $600, this 12-core, 24-thread beast is going for just $409.99 on Amazon right now.
For the sake of comparison, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D has 50 percent more cores and a 200MHz base clock speed boost versus the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is already our best pick for high-end gaming PC builds. At $409, it’s actually cheaper than the latter’s street price (though you can find a 7800X3D for significantly less if you look). In gaming performance the 7900X3D is at or just below Intel’s 24-core competitor, the Core i9-14900K, at around the same retail price.
At this discount, it’s a no-brainer — especially if you perform any heavy CPU tasks on your PC that can take advantage of all the 7900X3D’s extra cores.
Keep in mind that you’ll need a fairly recent AM5-based system (or motherboard upgrade) to take advantage of this CPU, not to mention a pretty beefy air cooler or AIO water cooler since it doesn’t come with one in the box. And with a TDP rating of 120 watts, you might want to double-check and see if your power supply is up to snuff, too. But if all that checks out, or you’re ready for a monster upgrade or completely new build, this is the best price we’ve seen yet on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D.
