I’ve been messing around with AI music tools lately, and the two I keep coming back to are Suno and Udio. These two apps make it easy to spin up a fully composed and polished song from just a simple idea.
Suno is the easiest place to start. You type a prompt with details such as genre, mood, and maybe a few lyrics. Then it builds a full track with vocals, instruments, and structure. It’s fast and surprisingly polished. I’ve gotten everything from decent indie rock to weirdly catchy synth pop in under a minute. You don’t need music theory to make it work, either—which is brilliant because I’m one of those people who only knows something sounds good, not why it sounds good.
Udio leans a bit more into control. You can shape sections, tweak outputs, and guide the song as it evolves. The results often feel more intentional, like you’re co-producing instead of rolling the dice. It also stands out with vocal quality and cleaner mixes, especially when you start refining parts.
Overall, Suno is faster and more playful, while Udio gives you more control and slightly more polished results. I bounce between both depending on what I’m after. Regardless, both tools let you generate full songs from scratch, extend clips, and experiment to your heart’s desire.
Either way, AI music makers are a wild time. You can go from “I wonder what that would sound like?” to actually hearing your idea play out in just a matter of minutes.
Both services offer free tiers that give you access to basic tools and a limited number of songs per day. After that, they have paid plans for $10 or $30 per month that include more advanced, professional-level features and significantly higher song creation limits. As a hobbyist, I just use the free tiers though and find they give me more than enough to play around with.
