Mozilla has added a new kill switch for AI features to its Firefox browser. This allows you to disable everything related to artificial intelligence with a single click.
First, you need version 148 of Firefox installed. You can find the version number in Settings under Help > About Firefox. The kill switch lives in the Settings menu. To access it, click on the three horizontal lines in the top right-hand corner. From there, scroll down and click on AI controls. You’ll see a box called Block AI Enhancements, which is set to Off by default.

If you toggle it to On, a window will appear in which you must confirm the change by clicking Block. The confirmation window also tells you which features you’re disabling via the toggle. These include, among other things, translations, suggestions for tab groups and a configurable chatbot in the sidebar.
You can re-enable the AI-powered translations and the chatbot using the drop-down menus under On-Device AI and AI Chatbot Provider in the sidebar. For chatbots, you can choose from six different LLMs, including Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.
