The John Ternus show
Tim Cook stepped down from his position as CEO after 15 years, though he will remain on the board of directors. He has named John Ternus, who was most recently senior vice president of hardware engineering, as his successor.
That means this is the first Apple Special Event in which Ternus will be the headliner, introducing the start of the event and thanking everyone at the end. Individual products are likely to be demonstrated by other Apple executives—they always are—but this is a big opportunity to shake up the format of Apple events in general.
Will we see a return to live stage events? Will the structure and format of the pre-recorded video events change at all? Or will Ternus be essentially interchangeable for Tim Cook, with nothing else about these big product reveals changing at all? Will Apple make a “Turn” pun at some point? We’ll have to wait and see.
iPhone Ultra
For the first time in over a decade, Apple is going to dramatically change the iPhone’s form factor.
Apple is going to release a folding iPhone, which most are expecting to be called iPhone Ultra. It will fold in half like a book and be shaped sort of like a passport when closed; an unusual aspect ratio for any phone and especially an iPhone.
Foundry
We expect two cameras (wide and ultrawide) on the back, one on the front, and the reintroduction of Touch ID in the side button for authentication. This is going to be a very premium product, with most rumors citing a starting price of $2,000 or more.
