It’s been over a month since Microsoft rolled out KB5121003—known as the August Patch Tuesday update—and we’re still feeling the effects of it. Wracked with issues like crashing games, broken printers and PDFs, and Teams and Outlook failures on Arm PCs, the very same update is also causing major instability on HP and Lenovo laptops.
As reported by Neowin, the KB5121003 update is apparently causing installation problems on HP laptops, with numerous users confirming the issue on Microsoft’s support forum. One user said that HP support blamed the update for corrupting the BIOS, forcing the user to reset their BIOS in order to fix the issue and retry the update.
Also reported by Neowin, the KB5121003 update is apparently also causing an issue on Lenovo laptops where AC power is randomly being disconnected. That’s a huge inconvenience for laptop owners when they need to charge up, yet neither Lenovo nor Microsoft have commented on or acknowledged the issue. Notably, rolling back the KB5121003 update seems to make the problem go away.
