But Apple had to make a number of important compromises to get there. A single rear camera. A battery that doesn’t quite last all day when it’s new, let alone after a couple years of use. With iPhone Air 2, Apple should rectify at least some of those issues, making one of Apple’s nicest iPhones into one of Apple’s best. At least, if the rumors are to be believed.

Outwardly, the iPhone Air 2 should resemble the current iPhone Air. The Black, White, and Light Gold colors are said to be joined by a sort of pale lavender color in place of the light blue.
The second iPhone Air is expected to have the same dimensions and use the same materials as the current model, with the exception of a second camera placed next to the current one on the “plateau” strip across the back.
We haven’t heard of any changes to the 6.5-inch always-on display, which is already excellent with a 3,000 nits peak brightness, 1 nit minimum, and 120Hz ProMotion.
Generally speaking, with the exception of swapping out one of the color options (as Apple does every year), the iPhone Air 2 will only be distinguishable from the iPhone Air by the second camera on the back.
iPhone Air 2 specs: A20 Pro and improved battery life
One of the sure-fire upgrades for the new iPhone Air will be a jump from the A19 Pro to the A20 Pro. It’s likely that the processor will have perhaps one GPU disabled, similar to how the current iPhone Air has an A19 Pro with 5 GPU cores instead of the 6 found in the iPhone 17 Pro.
Still, it will bring with it significant performance improvements, and likely better efficiency.

Perhaps the most disappointing compromise of the original iPhone Air is its single rear camera. Even the base iPhone models, costing hundreds less, have a Wide and Ultra Wide lenses.
With iPhone Air 2, multiple sources claim Apple has found ways to shrink the components in the center of the “plateau” area, namely the TrueDepth module, and that will give them room to add a second camera.
It is said to be a 48MP Ultra Wide camera, to go along with the 48MP Wide camera. Since the Ultra Wide camera with its very short focus range is responsible for macro mode photography, this will bring back a feature that was sorely missed.
As for the front camera—the square-sensor 18 megapixel selfie camera is a relatively recent upgrade, but a persistent rumor suggest Apple wants to upgrade all its front-facing cameras to 24MP. We heard that last year and it didn’t happen, and it’s being claimed again this year—if it happens, it should happen on the iPhone Air 2 as well as the iPhone 18 Pro.
