Mammotion has made a name for itself with the LUBA and YUKA series of robotic lawnmowers. The Spino E1 is the manufacturer’s first robot pool cleaner and it incorporates similar functions and features found in its robotic lawn mower lineup, including caterpillar tracks, 17 sensors, and support for the Mammotion app. We tested it in our pool to see how it performs.

Mammotion Spino E1: Design and build quality
The Spino E1 arrives securely packaged. Inside you’ll find a power adapter with a charging cable, a retrieval hook for the pool pole, and a poster-sized quick-start guide. There’s no charging station.

Power is supplied via a charging port behind a rubber cap on the housing. A yellow warning label makes it clear: charge only when the port is dry and ensure there is no standing water inside it. Charging via cable is less convenient than using a charging cradle. In everyday use, the connection worked without any problems.

Measuring 44.4 × 41.2 × 24.3 centimeters, the robot is pleasantly compact. Weighing 20.5 pounds, it can be carried easily by the integrated handle and lifted out of the pool. For example, the Mova Rover X10 weighs 34.8 pounds, while the Aiper Scuba V3 weighs 18.1 pounds.

The housing features a white casing with black elements and yellow accents. The most striking feature is the light blue lamellar roller at the front. The wide brush scrubs the floor before the suction opening picks up the loosened dirt.

Propulsion is provided by two coarsely grooved caterpillar tracks with 40-millimeter-wide treads, which maintain grip even on smooth plastic liners and steep walls. The roller and tracks can be removed without tools, making maintenance and the replacement of worn parts easier.

On top are the power button with an LED strip and the yellow lid of the filter basket, which can be removed by lifting it up with a tab. The housing appears to be well finished. No rattling parts or noticeable gaps were observed during testing, and the flaps close securely.

The housing is IPX8-rated, which means it’s protected against prolonged submersion. The battery is also double-sealed, and the materials are UV-resistant. The robot is suitable for salt water with a concentration of up to 5,000 ppm. Mammotion even offers a two-year warranty.
Mammotion Spino E1: Features
Inside, three brushless motors power the drive system and brush, along with a separate suction motor. This provides a maximum circulation rate of around 22,000 liters per hour. Dirt is collected in a filter basket with a mesh size of 180 micrometers. It reliably traps sand, leaves, and insects. Mammotion does not include an additional fine filter for pollen and suspended particles. The Mova Rover X10 and Aiper Scuba V3, on the other hand, filter significantly finer particles with their 3-µm membranes.
For navigation, the Spino E1 uses 17 sensors and SmartArc path planning. Unlike the Rover X10 and Scuba V3, it requires neither a laser tower or an AI camera. The robot follows arc-shaped paths, detects walls and obstacles, and adjusts its direction after each cycle. It does not create a map of the pool, though.
According to the Mammotion, it’s suitable for pools with a surface area of up to 150 square meters. The maximum operating depth is three meters. The robot can also handle walls and transitions at angles of up to 110 degrees. Suitable surfaces include liner, tiles, concrete, fiberglass, and natural stone.
The Spino E1 offers four cleaning modes plus a turbo mode as a beta option. The floor mode runs for up to 210 minutes, while the wall mode runs for up to 180 minutes. In automatic mode, the robot first cleans the walls first and then switches to floor cleaning when the battery is half full. Eco mode divides the battery charge into three floor cleaning sessions of 50 minutes each.

Power is supplied by a 6,000 mAh battery, which takes around three hours to fully recharge. Firmware updates can be installed via OTA.
Mammotion Spino E1: Setup
Setup is carried out via the Mammotion app, which also manages LUBA and YUKA robotic lawnmowers. If you already own a device from this manufacturer, simply add the Spino E1 to your list. New customers can create an account, activate Bluetooth, and pair the robot in less than two minutes.
Immediately after pairing, the app offered several firmware updates. This took just a few minutes and completed without any interruptions. We’re not sure if Mammotion will continue to provide the Spino E1 with new features and fixes on a regular basis.

You don’t have to configure the pool, which is nice. The Aiper Scuba V3, on the other hand, asks for the pool shape, dimensions, and water type before the first start-up. The Mammotion app simply prompts you to place the robot in the water.
After that, all you need to do is press the button on the device or the start button in the app.

The robot fills its chambers with water, sinks to the bottom, and goes to work. The LED strip on the top indicates the mode and charge level. The first cleaning cycle can be started without consulting the manual.
Mammotion Spino E1: Performance
Our round test pool has a smooth liner and a suspended stainless-steel ladder. In round pools, there are no straight guide edges that the robot could use to orient itself. Still, the Spino E1 navigated reliably during the test.
The Spino E1 delivered good cleaning performance and is easy to operate. Its tracks and sensor system work reliably, and the low weight makes it easy to lift out.
After sinking to the bottom, it follows arc-shaped paths across the floor, turns at the wall, and shifts slightly to the next track. After a complete cycle, no visible patches of dirt remained in our pool. Sand, leaves, and insects are reliably collected in the filter basket. The robot even picks up small pebbles from the bottom.

The chains hold the robot securely against the wall, and the roller applies audible pressure. At the waterline, the device extends several centimeters above the water line. This ensures that the typical ring of sun cream and skin oils is thoroughly removed.

The Spino E1 coped well with the pool ladder. It occasionally brushed against the rungs, reversed briefly, and carried on. It didn’t get stuck on the steps, either. With the Aiper Scuba V3, this problem occurred several times.

When the battery charge runs low, the robot climbs to the waterline and parks at the edge of the pool. When lifted out, the remaining water drains away in about five seconds. This makes the robot easier to carry.
You can remove the filter basket from the top. To clean it, simply rinse it out with a garden hose. The coarse sieve didn’t clog much at all during testing. Fine particles usually require more effort to clean. But due to the relatively coarse mesh size, some of the finest pollen passes through the 180-µm mesh.
The app’s functionality is limited. It only connects via Bluetooth when the robot is out of the water or at the water’s edge. Once submerged, there is no connection. Live data and manual control during the cleaning cycle are not possible. The Rover X10, for example, maintains contact with the app via its AquaSonar buoy even while cleaning. However, that model is significantly more expensive.
Detailed cleaning logs showing area covered and filter volume are also missing. Eco mode is suitable for regular floor maintenance. In this mode, the robot can remain in the water for several days, cleaning the floor at intervals before it needs to be recharged.

The Spino E1 delivered good cleaning performance and is easy to operate. Its tracks and sensor system work reliably, and the low weight makes it easy to lift out.

For real-time data, activity logs, and a skimmer function, the Mova Rover X10 offers more. The Aiper Scuba V3 also filters out finer particles with its 3-µm membrane, making it the better choice for those who prioritize fine filtration. Both models are considerably more expensive than the Spino E1, though.
The Mammotion Spino E1 is suitable for standard round and rectangular pools up to 150 square meters. It’s well-suited for buyers who prioritize ease of use and thorough wall cleaning, but can doo without real-time data and fine filtration.
