If there’s one thing we can all complain about when it comes to Apple gear, that’s just how expensive upgrading laptop storage can be (or storage for any device, if we’re being honest). Well, the Razer Thunderbolt 5 dock won’t just give you a bunch of extra ports, but also a way to expand your device’s storage.
Usually available for $400, the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock with RGB lighting is now on sale for $300, its best price yet. When we reviewed the model without RGB, we found that it’s absolutely fantastic, giving it a 4.5-star rating. One of the things we loved most was its clean design and the superb build quality. The fact that it has an internal M.2 SSD slot that supports up to 8TB is the perfect cherry on top. Compared to Thunderbolt 4, you’re getting double the speeds (40 Gbps to 80 Gbps) and improved multi-display support.
This Thunderbolt 5 dock is an absolute gem. There are 11 ports available on this device, including multiple TB5 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm audio jack, an SD card slot, USB Type A ports, and the SSD slot. While the dock enables you to add three monitors to your setup, Apple limits support to two external monitors. That could always change with a future macOS update, however.
Only a few Macs support Thunderbolt 5: the M4 Max and M3 Ultra Mac Studio, the M4 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, and the M4 Pro Mac mini. However, even if you don’t own one of those models, we expect Thunderbolt 5 to rapidly expand to other Macs and MacBooks this year, so a little future-proofing never hurts.
This dock certainly isn’t cheap, but it’s not much more than Razer’s Thunderbolt 4 dock, which is on sale for $270. Thunderbolt 5 is still a fairly new technology, and you’re even getting a Thunderbolt 5 cable, which Apple sells for $69. So go ahead and take advantage of this 25 percent discount for the Razer Thunderbolt Dock over at Amazon.
