I’ve personally reviewed dozens of Thunderbolt docks for PCWorld — and for the ones I haven’t, my colleagues at Macworld pick up the slack. Amazon’s selling the Wavlink 12-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 dock for $195, and Macworld awarded this dock an Editor’s Choice award. Yes please.
Why buy this dock? First, there’s the pricing history: Amazon’s prices tend to bubble up and then fall, but this dock is at its lowest price in a year, and by a huge margin: previously, the lowest price was about $260, a slight discount off the $299.99 MSRP. Now, it’s more than $100 off.
Second, there’s the features. Truthfully, Thunderbolt 4 is by far the dominant I/O standard on Windows laptops, while the Mac world has moved to the next-gen Thunderbolt 5 standard. However, there will be a day where PCs will move from Thunderbolt 4 to Thunderbolt 5, and you’ll need a laptop and a dock that supports that technology. This is a great opportunity to future-proof that half of your system right now. (And it’s also a bet that prices might not come down anytime soon.)
You may need an adapter cable with this dock to connect its Thunderbolt outputs to your monitor, but those are only about $10-$20 apiece for Prime Day; check out my list of discounted cables on our Prime Day dock discounts for more.
Otherwise, this dock has all the basics and then some: 140W charging to the laptop, four USB-A ports, 2.5Gbps Ethernet, and SD and microSD card slots. Just be aware that the Thunderbolt outputs (which may be connected to a display) double as generic USB-C connections, too.
