A few weeks ago, Microsoft released KB5083769, an update containing several important security fixes for Windows 11. Unfortunately, it’s also been problematic for some, causing issues like BitLocker lockouts, unexpected boot loops, and a Remote Desktop bug.
We’re now into May and the problems keep coming. Apparently, the KB5083769 update is also causing conflicts with a wide range of third-party backup programs, including Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, Macrium Reflect, NinjaOne Backup, and UrBackup Server.
The problems appear to stem from a bug in the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), a Windows service that creates point-in-time snapshots of files for use in disruptionless backup recovery.
According to BleepingComputer, users are advised to uninstall update KB5083769 to get the programs working again. It’s unclear when Microsoft will address the issue and release a patch.
