Windows 11 is finally getting better privacy controls for cameras and mics

Windows Latest reports that Microsoft intends to implement a long-awaited change in an upcoming Windows 11 update. The change will finally allow users to specify which individual apps can have access to the camera and microphone.

When an app attempts to access the microphone or camera for the first time, Windows now displays a centralized system dialog that requests permission. This was not the case previously and helps to reduce the potential damage caused by malware and spyware.

Currently, there’s only one setting in Windows that grants all apps access to the camera and microphone, which is obviously undesirable from a privacy perspective. It should be noted, however, that separate settings have existed for some time for apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store (but not for apps from other sources).
